The third Granfondo Del Deserto is organized by one of the most famous Italian bycicle manufacturers, "Cicli Pinarello" of Treviso, Italy, "Prima Class", tour operator of Milano, Italy, "Domina Coral Bay Resort & Casino", one of the largest and most presigious resorts in the Red Sea and the Egyptian businessman "Mr. Hani Kerdani", who originated the idea of the event and put it all together.
This unique event offer cyclists the chance to enjoy the magic of Sinai desert roads and the beauty of the Red Sea. The weather in this time of the year is perfect for cycling and swimming ( Air temperature: 8-25 degrees & Red Sea water temperature is 20 degrees). Cyclists will get in shape and ready to compete through two sorties one in the morning and one in the afternoon, guided by professional Italian cyclists. They will enjoy proffessional message and have their bycicles tuned up by professional mechanics at the Pinarello Point Bike Shop located inside the resort.
Time Trial: Participants will gather at the start line in Naama Bay, they will ride easy through the main street in Sharm heading for the Dahab desert road. They may stop at the various refereshment points along the desert road and get ready for their time trial. At the designated area at Sharira Pass they will enter the four kilometer time trial zone where each will give their best. Upon completing the time trial they will head for the Dahab Hilton Hotel where they will park their bikes in a secure bike park, hit the showers and be welcomed to a well deserved lunch. they may visit the city of Dahab and get ready to ride an air-conditioned bus back to Sharm.
The Race: The day of the 115 km Granfondo Del Deserto. Participants will leave from Domina Coral Bay by bus to arrive at Hilton Dahab where they will pick up their bicycles. The starting time is 10:00 AM local Egyptian time in front of Hilton Dahab reception area. they will ride easy untill the first check point on Dahab-Sharm desert road where they will pass the winning time first timing point. The competition will be along the desert road towards Sharm, where there will be many refreshment points,, entering Sharm and along the main street "Peace Road" passing through the old market and returning to the finish line inside Domina Coral Bay Resort & Casino.
The road used is well paved (asphalt) with light traffic. The elevation varies from sea level to 600 meter at Sharira Pass. Organizer staff will be on hand along the road at refreshment points, at main intersection points and driving along in marked cars, motorcycles and busses. Family members and companions are invited to watch the competition and will be transported by organizer busses to points of interest along the road.
